KAUHAJOKI, Finland and SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 2, 2015) – Serres, a leading European manufacturer of suction systems for healthcare professionals, announced today that it has launched a subsidiary in the US. Serres US will be headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, and will add locations in the mid-Atlantic region through a growing team of sales representatives. Serres will make its market debut at the annual Association of Registered Nurses (AORN) Surgical Conference & Expo in Denver this month (March 8-10).
Currently the largest European manufacturer of suction systems for hospitals and acute-care facilities, Serres has grown rapidly in the past years, with a double digit growth rate. Now used in 35 countries and in more than 40,000 surgeries daily, Serres plans to expand its market share through US sales of the Serres patented single-connection suction bag solution. The company provides a uniquely reliable and essentially error-free product, with a remarkably easy-to-use design.
“We are part of a wave of Finnish health-tech companies that are seeing growing opportunities in the U.S. market, particularly given the size of America’s aging population,” said Tomi Karvo, head of the Serres Hospitals Division. “Our products are well-recognized for safe and smart liquid handling, and we had received a growing number of US companies who had asked for our systems in recent years. The time is right for us to expand in the US.”
Serres had conducted a successful GAP program at UCLA in 2012 that laid the foundation for the company’s US market entry.
Serres customers regularly tout their products as superior given a number of factors, including:
- Ease-of-use due to the single-connection design
- Lower infection risk coming from the safe and easy handling of the suction bag system
- Efficient stock management, related to smart design which enables storage in 1/3 of the competition’s space, saving on inventory
- Safe and convenient waste disposal with a pre-gelled solidifying solution
“We have used the Serres suction bag system in the Prince of Wales Private hospital for more than three years and like them mainly because they are easy to use; compact in storage and provide different configurations that adapt to your needs,” said Rafael Rodriguez Chaves, nurse unit manager at Prince of Wales Private hospital in Sydney, Australia. “We have also found that the Serres system is the best cost-to-quality system we have ever used.”
Serres’ patented design provides a set of compatible accessories that can be seamlessly attached to its suction bags, making their products compatible with different needs of surgical suction. This makes the Serres product fully functional and always available in different applications in critical situations.
“The reliability, usability, staff safety and patient safety, performance during surgery, product range size, liquid collection capacity and efficient stock management all factored highly in our decision to use the Serres suction bag system,” said Andrea Rosenecker, head of the purchasing department at the Wilhelminenspital, the Vienna Open Medical Institute in Vienna Austria.
